It's genuinely fun, if a bit too creatively free, but Need for Speed: The Run is still a fine game in the series that deserves more love.Įventually the franchise took a break with Need for Speed: ProStreet, which eschewed the street-racing car culture themes and aesthetic for a more realistic and legal street racing competition like Forza. The time-trial based gameplay has players racing across a fictional United States for a huge prize, and the main character has an insurmountable debt that can only be paid by winning the race. While it never quite reaches the highs of Underground or Most Wanted, the game's story never becomes so absurd to the point where it's unbearable. That difference is made immediately apparent, as Need for Speed: The Run is solely a singleplayer story-based entry. The Run follows in the footsteps of traditional Need for Speed games, as it was the last game developed by EA Black Box before the studio was closed and integrated among other EA studios. Need for Speed: The Run followed up the soon-to-be remastered Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit from 2010, but it was a significantly different game in comparison. After Hot Pursuit Remastered, there's several more Need for Speed games that deserve a remaster. Before "Autolog" and all of the modern amenities in recent Need for Speed games, the franchise was in its prime with entries like Need for Speed: Underground and Carbon. Now in 2020, one of the more popular Need for Speed games from the franchise's modern era is getting a remaster.
Each game improved the arcade-like driving experience and quickly made it the most popular racing franchise in all of video games. This was around the time previous Need for Speed games had eschewed the usual supercars in favor of more tuner cars and car customization in each game. Back in the early 2000s, Need for Speed was nearing its peak as the series capitalized on the street racing car culture that had become mainstream. Not only that, as with other Need for Speed games, this also includes a variety of body modifications which includes hoods, rims, spoilers, and more. The player with the most points in the event wins.Īside from awesome game modes, ProStreet also allows players to customize their rides from a wide array of decals, vinyls, and paint colors available in their garages. Lastly, the game has the Drift mode where players will complete a course while drifting their cars and earn points. The third game mode is Speed Challenge, where players must cross the finish line in order to win the race, however players have to be cautious to keep their speeds below 200 mph.

Time Attack – driver with fastest single lap time overall wins. These race types are: Normal Grip – features 2-4 laps around a circuit track up to 7 racers first one to cross the finish line wins, Grip Class – consists of 8 racers divided into 2 equal numbered groups, each racer is placed in a group depending in their vehicle’s performance and potential although Group A starts 10 seconds ahead of Group B, players will only need to compete with the 3 other players within their group. The first one is Drag, where you race in a simple straight drag strip and it includes three heats and three types of races (1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, and the wheelie competition). There are four different game modes you can choose from in Need for Speed ProStreet. The game takes place in well-known roads in Chicago, Nevada, Europe, and Tokyo, among others.
This makes it the first game in the series that does not feature illegal racing since Need for Speed II. The game has definitely taken this series into a different direction in terms of gameplay as all racing is done solely on closed tracks. It is the 11th installment in the popular Need for Speed series.
